I understand that there are many ways to achieve excellence and self-improvement is the prerequisite for any future change. Daily self-reflection to determine how my actions, words, and behaviors impact others around me is very important to me. I believe in being visible around campus and being a role model for students and faculty. I am not afraid of conflict, student misbehavior, and\/or disgruntled parents. Others have said that I lead with compassion, humility, and fairness. I understand that I have a lot to learn and I am looking forward to learning from the best. Thank you for including me in the Hale Kula family.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"13325891","body":"I agree with the leadership qualities mentioned in the article, but the one I'd like to share is "peer respect."
\n
\nRe. peer respect: It's not always easy to gain peer respect when we are so busy with everyday responsibilities. Sometimes, it can be lonely at the top. Unless someone has walked in the shoes of the leader, they can never really empathize with the different and sometimes difficult challenges we face. This is why it's important to create a support group, people who understand and can help us to talk through our challenges because they've been there, too.
\n
\nA bunch of us women principals get together for lunch during intersessions. It's refreshing to know that other principals are having the same kinds of problems we are having. This doesn't mean, however, that it's a BMW session. We always leave more relaxed and ready to get back to the important work of leading.
\n
\nEveryone needs a peer support group, and it's often the people we went through ACE with or our complex colleagues. Make sure you develop supportive relationships because once you decided to become an EO, the relationship with your fellow counselors\/teachers changed, at least professionally.
\n
\nBrian and Agnes, you both have the leadership qualities mentioned in this article. I'm proud that our administrative team is able to get out of our comfort zone and attempt to communicate as 21st century leaders.","dateCreated":"1248516167","smartDate":"Jul 25, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"jiwase","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/jiwase","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"13292761","dateCreated":"1248292214","smartDate":"Jul 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"aleinau","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aleinau","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1248303033\/aleinau-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/halekulaadmin.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/13292761"},"dateDigested":1532253924,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"techno-constructivist ??","description":"Wow! I can't help thinking about the "Shift Happens" video... it is and will continue to be a brave new world that we, as in everyone in education, really need to start by admitting that what we did even a few years ago is possibly outdated. I'd like to spend a lot more time investigating the links listed in the article :-) I strongly believe it will be individual attitudes that will be the biggest stumbling block for most teachers. I'm also hoping that the training new teachers get at university will move out of the electronic - traditionalist mind set and into the techno-constructivist mode. Thanks Jan, Aloha, Agnes","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"13292859","body":"I totally agree with you Agnes. Unless we as educators are willing to step out of our comfort zone, our students will continue to be disengaged in the traditional classroom. It starts with us as administrators; if we want our teachers to embrace instruction using technology which includes inquiry, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, we need to lead by example.

\nI'm looking forward to learning from both of you!
